Join the Choir

Our Educational Programme – Would your son like to join BBS?

The Bromley Boy Singers is a completely independent choir that offers fun-filled & expert vocal training for all boys from the age of 5.

Singing & music theory is made fun and in a friendly, energetic and playful environment and is taught by some of UK’s leading voice tutors under the musical directorship of Travis Baker.

Emphasis is placed on the personal ability of each boy as well as developing a strong sense of team-spirit and long-term life skills.

BBS consists of 60 boys split into four groups:
-Training Choir (ages 5-8)
-The Intrepid Choir (ages 7-10)
-The Concert Choir for those who are ready for public performances, tours and competitions (ages 9-15)
-VISTRA for the changed voices (ages 15-21)

WEEKLY REHEARSALS on Wednesdays take place in Mary’s Church, College Rd, Bromley, BR1 3QG

SCHOOL HOLIDAY COURSES play a huge part in the musical training and the individual devleopment of each boy. In gorgeous surroundings in Surrey with plenty of good food, games and outdoor activities, the residential courses offer a profoundly unique experience.

Here the focus is not only on learning a great deal of music (which they do!) but also indivual  personal development. Led by Travis and BBS staff, CIB certified volunteers and external Vocal Coaches, each boy will receive 1-2-1 training alongside the team-building experience of singing together, sharing meals and leisure time.

“We get a term and a half worth of rehearsals in the space of five days and get individual tuition with Travis and Judith Colman and you get to know everyone much better. It’s certainly very valuable for us.”  Dominic, with BBS since 2008.

Minack SingThe Concert Choir and VISTRA take part in 10 CONCERTS per year locally and in central London. Recent venues include St.Martin-in-the-Fields, Royal Albert Hall, St John’s Smith Square & Queen Elizabeth Hall

It’s a really rewarding and professional environment to learn in whist in a fun and relaxed atmosphere – a real level of education you can’t find anywhere else.”  Thomas, with BBS since 2009.

There is an additional monthly rehearsal on the second Sunday in each month during term time; and twice a year we run choir courses to refine the boys’ technique, concentrate on individual voice production and help each BBS member reach the best possible standard.

We do have to charge for joining the choir to cover the staff and resources needed to run the choir.

The subscription rates range from £70-£100 per school term. Reduced rates are also applied in some circumstances such as for younger brothers.

If you would like to experience a rehearsal before making a commitment, we are happy to offer a two week trial period where you can join the appropriate group and see if it’s for you.

If you wish to speak to someone about this, please call Carole, who directs the Training Choir and oversees recruitment, on

TESTIMONIAL:
“I joined The Bromley Boy Singers in the summer of 1999. BBS gave me many wonderful opportunities and memories and lit in me a passion to sing, and to sing good music. The social aspect of the choir was always fun, too.
The courses were the best; singing every day, but also playing stupidly competitive football during breaks and playing Pokemon for what felt like hours on end.
BBS gave me a fantastic grounding in music. I was with the choir for just under 5 years, before moving to Bath where I became a chorister, then head chorister and later a tenor at Bath Abbey. I am currently halfway through a Masters degree in composition at the University of Manchester and am working as a freelance conductor on the side, recently shortlisted for Genesis Sixteen’s Conducting Scholarship to work with
Harry Christophers.
Thank you very much, and congratulations on 40 years. Here’s to another 40!”
Rory Johnston
